AEM @SP Day 3- Trip to Peranakan museum

Day 3 was the trip to Peranakan Museum, located at 39 Armenian street. Our tour guide was Elisha Paul. Mrs Wang, our teacher told us that he was very good, and won a lot of awards too! He is very knowledgeable too! He told us how did the Peranakans origin and came about. Let me share some knowledge with you guys! From what i knew, the Peranakans may not be different races married together, for example it could be Chinese with an Chinese or Malay with Chinese and etc. As for their culture, they had a 12 day event of marriage! Imagine 12 days with about near 15kg of jewelries and accessories like headgear, which are made up of gold,  carried on their body for 12 days is really not easy and simple! The wedding garments were heavily embroidered silk. It was decorated with pairs of auspicious peonies and phoenixes. Besides most of the ladies are only 14 years old!

Most of the Peranakans couple bed would put  A hen and a rooster under their beds alive. According to their tradition, if they had pulled out a hen, it means most likely they would bear a girl and rooster would be a guy. Before they could actually sleep on the bed, they had to let a small boy born in the dragon year to roll and jump around in the bed! As most of them prefer boys born in the year of Dragon.
Nonyas were also trained for marriage life from a young age. most of them did not attend education too. They were expected to have excellent culinary skills and bead work! However Babas (guys) could also do bead work too! Nonyas were also not allowed to go out in the public and also only allowed to stay in the kitchen or rooms when there are guests. If they really want to go out, they also had to bring body guards and stay in a cubicle kind of room and the body guards would carry them around.
